Jaroslav Foglar's first published book, The Port Calls, was published in 1934, at a time when he had already published the booklets Hochy od Bobří řeky and Boj o první místo. He wrote it in a hurry, like many of his works, but this time he was motivated to hurry by the deadline for the competition for the best children's book. And in the end, he won the literary battle for first place.
