Syria’s MoE has issued new instructions under Decree No. 13 of 2026 aimed at protecting cultural and linguistic rights while promoting diversity within an inclusive national identity.
According to the implementation guidelines published by the Syrian Ministry of Education and Training, Kurdish has been included in the curriculum as an elective subject. If chosen, two hours of Kurdish language instruction will be provided per week at all grade levels.
In Syria, Kurdish will be included in the official education system for the first time starting in the 2026-2027 academic year. The subject will be offered as an elective for two hours a week in certain regions.
