- Rana was ruled out after sustaining a new rectus femoris strain while bowling during a match simulation on Monday at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
- The 27-year-old Thakur recently made his T20I debut during India's tour of Zimbabwe in July and has featured in 50 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches, picking up 81 wickets.
- India takes on Afghanistan in three T20Is in New Delhi starting September 13, followed by a one-off game against Japan in Tokyo on September 22.
- Following his stint with India-A in Sri Lanka, Thakur will join the squad as they prepare to open their Asian Games campaign on September 28.
