KRC Genk has gained another international. Emile Doucouré made his debut on Sunday, although he did not do so for Belgium. The nineteen-year-old goalkeeper announced back in late September that he wanted to play for Mali. It didn't take much time to make that dream come true.
The die is cast. Emile Doucouré has made his debut for the national team of Mali. The Jong Genk goalkeeper—born in Antwerp, with a past at Beerschot—has now made his (forced) debut for his country. And so the decision seems to have been definitively made.
During Maroc-Mali, a small event could have gone unnoticed: a Belgian talent played its first minutes with the Squirrels. Emile Doucouré, young goaltender of KRC Genk, born in Antwerp, chose to change sports nationality after wearing the Belgian jersey in teams of young people.
