Pistons, Jalen Duren agree on 5-year, $200M contract, AP source says
- All-NBA center Jalen Duren missed the Detroit Pistons' media day on Monday, September 28, and skipped the start of training camp as his restricted free agency contract standoff remains unresolved.
- Negotiations have stalled over a five-year, $200 million offer Duren declined; the Pistons included a "weight clause" requiring monthly weigh-ins that reportedly frustrated the 22-year-old center.
- Duren faces a Thursday, October 1 deadline to accept a one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer; representatives indicated "the standoff is no longer about the money," signaling deeper frustration.
- Pistons President Trajan Langdon rejected all sign-and-trade proposals, stating "we can control the way we will welcome him in when he makes that decision" regardless of his choice.
- Although the Washington Wizards and Sacramento Kings have reportedly expressed interest in sign-and-trade deals, Detroit maintains it has no intention of moving the All-NBA center this season.
