The President of Guinea-Conacri, who controls the country after a coup d'état in 2021, granted a presidential pardon to the opposition leader, arrested 21 months ago, was this Saturday announced.
The president of the Liberal Democratic Movement has been incarcerated since December 2024. His grace, as well as that of 216 other detainees, was decided by the head of state, Mamadi Doumbouya, on the occasion of the Independence Day of the country, according to a presidential decree.
Several dozen convicted prisoners were granted a total remission of sentence on the occasion of the Guinean National Day on Friday, 2 October. Among them was the opponent Aliou Bah, who had been arrested at the end of 2024 and sentenced in May 2025 to two years in prison for "offensive and defamation" towards the head of State.
