Independence Day: Nigeria Is Moving From Reform To Prosperity, Tinubu Assures Nigerians
On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu delivered his 66th Independence Day address, declaring that the era of economic reform has concluded and the Federal Government now prioritizes reducing living costs through cuts in production and transportation expenses.
The President acknowledged current hardships accumulated over decades of inadequate infrastructure and failed institutions. Tinubu stated these challenges could not be erased in four years of his administration, requiring sustained long-term effort.
Strengthening direct support for the poorest households remains central, with programs like NELFUND and CREDICORP aiding vulnerable Nigerians. The National Social Register is being improved to ensure assistance reaches those who genuinely need it.
Tinubu explained these measures are bridges to prosperity, not substitutes for it, requiring sustained growth and millions of productive opportunities. He emphasized the goal is not merely to manage poverty but to transform Nigeria's economic trajectory.
The President stated Nigeria has "passed through our own Red Sea" and is heading toward a "Promised Land" of abundance, urging citizens to maintain faith. He expressed confidence that sacrifices made will yield lasting reward.
