6 men arrested in Ashland County human trafficking sting, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announces

Six men charged with prostitution after a one-day sting aimed at reducing human trafficking demand and identifying victims, officials said.

  • Dec. 5's one-day operation in Ashland County by the H.E.A.L. Human Trafficking Task Force led to six men arrested for allegedly attempting to buy sex, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced Monday.
  • The H.E.A.L. Human Trafficking Task Force comprises Huron, Erie, Ashland and Lorain county sheriff's offices and worked with Perkins Township Police Department, Sheffield Village Police Department, Ashland City Police Department, and Safe Haven of Ashland.
  • The six arrestees include Mark Gamble, 55, of Dublin; James Heffelfinger, 62, of Butler; and others, charged with engaging in prostitution; most are scheduled to appear before a judge on Dec. 9, with Gamble's arraignment on Jan. 9.
  • Authorities identified one potential human trafficking victim during the sting who was connected with social services and received assistance from Safe Haven of Ashland.
  • Officials emphasize the H.E.A.L. task forces conduct stings to reduce demand and raise awareness statewide, noting buyers can be everyday workers like a farmer, forklift operator, auto parts manager, and electrician.
