Man Arrested on First-Degree Murder Charge in Case of Missing Baton Rouge Teenager
Police say evidence links Maurice Parms to the teen’s death and disposal of the body, and the investigation has drawn a $10,000 reward.
On Saturday, Baton Rouge Police arrested Maurice Parms, 51, on a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of 15-year-old JaDerrius Minnieweather, whose body remains missing.
Investigators stated the fatal conflict arose after Minnieweather confronted Parms over his treatment of a 16-year-old girl with whom Parms allegedly maintained an inappropriate relationship discovered during the disappearance investigation.
Police reported bloodstains found near the scene and inside Parms' truck, while surveillance video captured a person matching his body type discarding a mask, gloves and a T-shirt.
Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards praised citizens for providing information that led to the arrest, stating, "Without them, today may not have happened."
Previously arrested for indecent behavior with juveniles and computer-aided solicitation of a minor, Parms is currently held at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the first-degree murder charge.
