The Ontario Provincial Police laid over 8,240 charges related to traffic and marine safety during the Civic Holiday long weekend across Ontario, including speeding, seatbelt violations, impaired and distracted driving, and Move Over Law offenses.
In Ontario's West Region, the OPP conducted over 2,100 traffic stops and laid 1,815 charges, primarily for speeding and seatbelt violations, from July 31 to August 3, 2026.
A 27-year-old man was charged with multiple drug trafficking offenses after an OPP investigation in Dryden, where suspected drugs and cash were seized from a vehicle and a property.
Speeding remains a leading cause of crashes and fatalities, with 14 people killed in speed-related collisions in the West Region so far in 2026; the OPP continues to focus on enforcing laws against speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and seatbelt violations to promote safer driving.
