Pikachu Goes to Space: Pokémon Launches ESA Collaboration for World Space Week
The partnership adds a museum tour, merchandise and a Pokémon Go event as Pikachu’s spaceflight photos help promote ESA missions.
- The Pokémon Company is collaborating with the European Space Agency to celebrate World Space Week this October, featuring a museum tour across Europe and exclusive merchandise.
- Earlier this year, a Pikachu plushie orbited Earth for 67 days alongside French astronaut Sophie Adenot, completing approximately 1040 orbits on the International Space Station.
- Temporary exhibitions will launch at ESA sites and major museums across Europe, featuring themed panels. Mathieu Galante, senior director of licensing at The Pokémon Company International, said the collaboration "opens a new frontier for fans."
- From October 4 to October 10, Pokémon Go players can capture a special astronaut Pikachu via one-star raids or timed research during the World Space Week event.
- Starting September 25 in Rome, the tour visits multiple ESA locations and museums to "shine cosmic light on ESA's space exploration missions" across Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
