On Monday, Aug 31, the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation named three laureates from Singapore, Bangladesh, and Myanmar as 2026 recipients, recognizing their work in international diplomacy, community development, and human rights.
Known as Asia's premier prize, the 68th Ramon Magsaysay Awards will formally present citations at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila on Nov 15, honoring individuals addressing human development across the region.
Singaporean statesman Tommy Koh was recognized for leadership in international law and diplomacy spanning six decades, while Bangladeshi social entrepreneur Runa Khan received honor for providing essential services through Friendship to remote, climate-vulnerable communities.
Myanmar human rights defender Bo Kyi was cited for documenting political imprisonment and supporting detainees through the Assistance Association , which he established in Thailand two years after his 1998 release from prison.
Bo Kyi called for solidarity to secure the release of all political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, to build a stable Burma, reflecting the foundation's recognition of laureates' 'greatness of spirit' in fighting for justice.
