Three People Injured After Helicopter Crashed Into N.W.T. Lake: RCMP
RCMP said local residents helped search after the crash, and investigators referred the case to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
On Sunday, RCMP rescued three people after their helicopter crashed into a lake nearly 20 kilometres north of Gameti, Northwest Territories, following a distress call just before 3 p.m.
Gameti, a First Nation located about 375 kilometres northwest of Yellowknife, became the search base where community members organized boats to assist RCMP in locating the downed aircraft.
Searchers located all three individuals just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday and transported them to a local health centre, where they were treated for minor injuries.
Yellowknife RCMP transferred the investigation to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, though authorities have not provided details on what caused the crash.
The Transportation Safety Board will lead the formal inquiry into the incident, determining the circumstances surrounding the crash in the coming investigation.
