2026 Logie Awards: Bruce McAvaney honoured with new award
The new sports presenter category honors Bruce McAvaney, while Robert Irwin will host and public voting will decide winners.
On Monday, the 66th TV Week Logie Awards revealed this year's nominations, with seven celebrities—including Robert Irwin, Sam Pang, and Julia Morris—competing for the Gold Logie. The ceremony takes place August 16 at The Star Sydney.
Organizers rejigged the voting system this year after grumblings over the 2024 format, assigning 50 per cent weight to public votes while the remaining 50 per cent combines judging panel scores and audience engagement data.
The ABC dominated with 33 nominations across all categories, while Prime Video became the most nominated streamer, picking up 11 nods largely driven by World War II drama The Narrow Road to the Deep North.
Officials introduced the Bruce McAvaney Award for Most Popular Sports Presenter, honoring the legendary commentator for decades covering major events including the Olympics and the Ashes at the highest level.
Wildlife conservationist Irwin takes over hosting duties from Pang, stating, "Throughout my life, my goal has been to spread an important message not only through our work at Australia Zoo, but also on the screen.
