2 separate deaths on UC Berkeley campus under investigation, police say
University officials said both deaths remain under investigation, and counselors were offered after a 21-year-old student and another man died on campus.
Authorities discovered two deaths within a 24-hour span on the University of California, Berkeley campus: a 21-year-old student who fell from the Unit 3 Residence Hall on Tuesday and an unidentified man found near Sproul Plaza on Wednesday.
The Alameda County Coroner is investigating both deaths to determine official causes, with officials stating there is "no immediate indication of foul play" in either separate incident.
Emergency responders arrived at the Unit 3 Residence Hall shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday after reports of a fall, while university staff discovered the second body near Sproul Plaza on Wednesday around noon.
University spokesman Adam Ratliff said, "We are saddened by this tragic news," as the university promoted counseling services and Alameda County's 24-hour crisis support line at 800-309-2131.
Officials emphasized there is no known threat to the campus community, though the discoveries in central, highly trafficked locations have drawn significant attention and heightened concern among students and staff.
