18 years later, missing persons case continues to prompt tips for sheriff's office
Authorities still receive and investigate tips as searches and river excavations continue in the 18-year-old missing-person case.
Despite 18 years of mystery since Brandon Swanson vanished on May 14, 2008, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension continue to investigate tips regarding the 19-year-old's disappearance.
In the early morning hours of May 14, 2008, Brandon Swanson drove his Chevrolet Lumina into a ditch while traveling from Canby to Marshall, losing contact with his parents, Brian Swanson and Annette Swanson, after shouting an expletive.
Canine units tracked a 3-mile route from the vehicle to the Yellow Medicine River, though authorities found no signs of Brandon; his car was located 20 miles away from where he believed he went off the road.
Following the family's initial struggle to secure assistance from authorities during the 2008 search, the Minnesota Legislature passed legislation in 2009 requiring law enforcement to prioritize missing persons reports regardless of age.
Today, Brandon would be 37 years old. Lyon County Sheriff Eric Wallen asks anyone with information about the case to contact the Lyon County Sheriff's Office at 537-7666.
