14-Year-Old Boy Arrested, Allegedly Brought Two BB Guns to Hammond School
Sandy Hook Promise alerted the FBI after the teen posted threats online, and deputies found several rifles and a handgun at the home.
Crawford County deputies arrested a 14-year-old student on Monday charged with threatening to commit mass violence on school property, a Class C felony. The teen allegedly posted plans for a school shooting on social media.
The Sandy Hook Promise organization notified federal and local officials after receiving tips about threatening online posts. The FBI and Oklahoma City Police Department traced the threats to a Crawford County residence.
Social media posts included statements such as "...been thinking about shooting up a school...I have a gun, a plan, a list..." Investigators found several rifles and a handgun matching the weapon pictured online.
Following the arrest, the teen was taken to a juvenile facility to await proceedings. The incident occurred two days before Alma, Mountainburg, and Van Buren schools were set to begin the new school year.
Sgt. Philip Pevehouse, spokesman for the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, described the case as a successful effort of "prevention and intervention." Authorities ensured area school leaders were aware of the threats to maintain student safety.
