Investigators said the child found a stolen handgun behind a trash can and fired it, killing 16-year-old William Boyd.
- On Thursday, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced that 13-year-old Daniel Hawkins-Boyce faces third-degree murder charges in the September 22 shooting death of 16-year-old William Adorno Boyd in Norristown.
- Investigators allege Hawkins-Boyce found a stolen Ruger.380-caliber handgun beside a trash can and was playing with the weapon when it discharged, fatally striking Boyd in the head inside an Arch Street residence.
- After the shooting, Hawkins-Boyce called 911 and alerted his mother; the Norristown Police Department and Montgomery County Detectives responded to the 800 block of Arch Street and are investigating the incident.
- Visiting Judge Margherita P. Worthington set bail at $200,000 with 10% required on Wednesday; Hawkins-Boyce is held at the Montgomery County Youth Center pending a preliminary hearing on October 14.
- Although Pennsylvania law requires charging the defendant in adult court, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele noted the court will review whether the case transfers to juvenile court, where rehabilitation is prioritized.
