12-Year-Old Killed in Downtown Nashville Shooting, Suspect Arrested
Police said the boy was caught in a fight that escalated into gunfire, and several people were detained and interviewed.
On Sunday, 12-year-old Damarion Morehead died after being shot near Union Terrace in Downtown Nashville. Metro Nashville Police Department officers responded to the scene at 7:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire.
Detectives learned a group of individuals, including Morehead, gathered at Rep. John Lewis Way and Deaderick Street for a fight reportedly over a female. The altercation preceded the fatal shooting.
Police say the group "ganged up" on Orr and were "striking him with both punches and kicks to his head." Video shows Orr grabbed his gun during the incident; two shots were then heard.
Authorities arrested 24-year-old Devin Orr, who faces criminal homicide charges. Orr directed officers to a sewer on Charlotte Pike where they recovered the weapon used in the shooting.
The Metro Nashville Police Department continues investigating the shooting. Officials stated "Tragically, Damarion Morehead, 12, has died from his injuries," and urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
