11 killed as tractor-trolley falls into pond during Durga idol immersion in Madhya Pradesh
Eleven people, including eight children, died after an overloaded tractor-trolley overturned into a pond during Durga immersion, with rescue teams continuing search efforts, officials said.
- On Thursday , a tractor-trolley carrying devotees and Durga idols overturned into a pond in Jamli village, Pandhana area, killing at least 11 persons including eight minors.
- The vehicle was reportedly overloaded, carrying around 20–25 people from Ardla and Jamli villages, and it lost balance while parked on a makeshift culvert, overturning into the pond.
- Rescue teams recovered ten bodies from the water, three injured are critical at Khandwa district hospital, and locals and State Disaster Response Force personnel used an earthmoving machine and divers for recovery.
- Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced Rs 4 lakh to each next of kin and ordered proper treatment for injured devotees, while the Prime Minister's Office offered Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
