100-year-old skydiving grandma proves age is just a number
Ruby McNally marked her centennial with a skydive joined by six family members and friends, continuing a tradition that began at age 80.
On Thursday, Ruby McNally celebrated her 100th birthday by skydiving at SkyDance SkyDiving in Davis. The Roseville resident, joined by six family members and friends, completed the jump to mark the milestone.
This skydiving tradition began two decades ago on her 80th birthday after a grandson challenged her to jump. McNally returned for another jump at 90 and promised to return when she turned 100.
"There's not that many other people on planet Earth that can say, 'Hey, I'm going skydiving with Grandma that's 100,'" April Bartok said. Family members joined the jump, celebrating McNally's determination.
Daughter Sharon McNally noted the difficulty of dissuading her mother, saying "At 100, you learn you're not talking her out of anything." The family expressed pride in McNally's adventurous spirit.
McNally expressed interest in skydiving again at 110, saying "I'm aiming for it." Her granddaughter proposed making the jump an annual event rather than waiting another decade.
