10,000 CBSA Removal Warrants Active for More than One Year
More than 10,000 removal warrants have been active over a year amid a record 33,000 total warrants and 400 removals per week, CBSA said.
- On Dec. 5, 2025 the Canada Border Services Agency reported there are 33,000 removal warrants on its list and more than 22,000 people were removed in the last 12 months.
- Warrants accumulate because people fail to comply with removal orders under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and many involve temporary residents violating permit terms after more than 70 million passed Canadian ports of entry last year.
- Operationally, the agency relies on about 550 inland investigators tracking warrants and removes about 400 people a week, with only 2.2 per cent barred for criminality.
- The federal government responded by announcing plans to hire 1,000 officers over three years as McCrorie warned that more than 10,000 removal warrants have been on the list for over a year, creating a backlog.
- Adding to the complexity, police across the country have access to CBSA warrant information as inventories remain dynamic with 7,000 more warrants added, the agency noted.
